Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members,

Golden is golden! Golden is a 2016 Gold Ribbon school, California’s new distinction for schools of excellence. Golden has a core group of teachers who designed our new PBIS program. Golden has a Teacher of the Year, named by Parenting OC as a 2016 Top 25 Teacher. Golden has a caring community supportive of student learning. Golden is golden!

We are excited about implementing our newly minted Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) at Golden! Our focus this year is on building and acknowledging Respect, Responsibility and Safety throughout our school on a daily basis – in our classrooms, at recess, at lunch, before and after school. We are excited about this positive system and next year’s kick-off.

Charlie entered the Chocolate Factory with his Golden ticket, only to find that his life was already golden, rich with loving family and support. Those children grabbing for what they desired ended up getting exactly that with hysterical results. Watching Viola blow up into a giant blueberry was ‘Bluelicious’. Oompa Loompas stole the show with their delightfully mischievous musical numbers. Both casts created a delightfully Golden moment.

New experiences abounded! Students in primary classes wrote fabulously creative stories, brought to life by Imagination Machine dramatic actors. What a Golden moment! This year brought the return of fourth grade music to all elementary students. Lovely music lilted through the hallways as students learned to read music and begin their musical careers with orchestra. Art is alive and well at Golden. Two art programs, Meet the Masters and FIBO, combine with our own Art Docent program infusing golden light on Georgia O’Keefe flowers blooming in classes throughout the campus. A fourth grade and sixth grade Eagles spelled their way to second place wins in REACH Foundation's second annual district wide Spelling Bee.

Golden is moving forward with our focus in science as we look towards Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Students have grown plants and recorded data, researched different types of electrical energy, sorted rocks with screens and magnifying glasses, determined how mass of a ball and slope affect acceleration, and identified which objects will stick to a magnets. Golden sun shown on students measuring their shadow at various times during the day. Golden is well on its way to experiencing the real world through the lens of science!

Have a wonderful summer and remember…. You’re part of Golden Eagle Country where ALL students SHINE.

Warmest Regard,

Mrs. Roann E. Turk
