Golden GATE Magnet Program

Golden proudly houses one of three elementary GATE magnet programs in PYLUSD. GATE students at Golden are placed in self-contained classrooms with other GATE-identified students. Golden currently has eight GATE magnet classes for the 2021-22 school year. The comprehensive GATE program at Golden positively challenges all students with rigorous content that facilitates fluid transitions between grade levels. Within the GATE magnet classroom setting, curriculum differentiation, structured to best meet the needs of our students, may include for example, curriculum compacting, enrichment, tiered assignments, and project menus. Golden GATE students are encouraged to develop the habits of mind that lead to becoming lifelong scholars, critical thinkers, collaborators, innovators, leaders, and global citizens.

Our goals are to:

  • Provide opportunities for academically and intellectually talented students to experience rigor in a setting with others who share their enthusiasm and similar interests
  • Develop organizational and study skills.
  • Facilitate the use of technology.
  • Foster the development of critical thinking.
  • Encourage collaboration and effective communication.
  • Support the social and emotional needs of gifted students.

As a National Blue Ribbon School and a California Distinguished School, Golden offers a variety of opportunities for ALL Golden students. In addition to a variety of fee-based after-school classes, students are also offered Walk Through History programs, musical theatre, Golden Eagle University, Student Council, mock trials, and much more.

All GATE teachers at Golden have been trained in Differentiated Instruction, including the elements of depth and complexity and content imperatives. Most have participated in the CAG (California Association for Gifted) Sandra Kaplan Academy, all have attended state CAG and Orange County CAG conferences, and two team members are California certified in Gifted Education.

Golden teachers facilitate a positive working environment using curriculum and strategies with which all students feel challenged and safe in intellectual and social pursuits.
